Easy Guide to Detoxing Your Life and Hitting Reset

Do you ever feel like you just need a break? Like you’ve been going and going, running yourself ragged, and you feel like your mental health has taken the biggest hit? We’ve all been there and we’re here to tell you it’s not just you so take it easy on yourself. Mindfulness isn't always easy, but it's important.

Your mental health probably needs a reset because let's face it, when was the last time you had one?

In a world where you can no longer truly disconnect, it’s nearly impossible to spend the time needed to focus on yourself and your own peace of mind. That twenty minute drive to and from the office is a thing of the past. The cherished time you used to spend with the windows down and your favorite song lofting out of the speakers is gone. COVID-19 means some of us still aren’t even getting that drive at all and those that are aren’t free to really enjoy it anymore anyway.

Instead, you spend those twenty minutes making appointments and returning phone calls. Your favorite song doesn’t fill the car anymore, now you just listen to a podcast which - yes, you enjoy, you do, but it doesn't hit the same as your favorite Dave Matthews Band song always did. Your brain just keeps going.

The concept of self-care is constantly trending because people are realizing it’s constantly needed, especially in our heavily connected world. If you don’t take a few minutes of uninterrupted time for yourself these days, you’ll quickly run out of steam. If you don’t unplug sometimes, you’ll forget what it’s like to just be.

That’s why we’ve put together a few detox ideas for you to try. Hitting the reset button might be exactly what will help you get back to living good and being well.

1. Bad habit detox

If you’ve heard a few of these tips before, there’s a reason for that. They work, plain and simple. More sleep, more water, less alcohol, and an extra walk a day go a long way. You get busy and you realize that one by one you stopped drinking water and started drinking too much iced coffee which means all the caffeine keeps you up until midnight instead of ten like you used to get to bed. Suddenly everything is out of whack and you’re slowly burning out. Start adding the classics back in. It’s time.

2. Digital detox

I don’t think I’m alone when I say my phone notifying me of my screen time is sometimes the most stressful part of my day. Honestly I don’t even realize I’m doing it anymore. A little Facebook here or Instagram there and suddenly I’m getting a notification that I’m up to six hours of screen time a day. How is that even possible? I feel like a lot of you can relate.

No one is saying you need to be that person to deactivate or delete your accounts. That’s just not practical in this day and age, we agree. You can set limits though. It’s typically as easy as going into your phone's settings and then selecting screen time. Try completely limiting your screen time for a while or even limiting it down to an hour a day. That’s still a lot of time! Think of what all you can do with those extra five hours. Or even better, what you can not do.

3. Skin detox

This is about much more than your skin but a few simple adjustments will make you feel (and look!) brand new. Cut out the sugar, start each day with a glass of lemon water to get your metabolism going again and add more greens into your diet.

Cutting sugar is hard, everyone agrees. The thing is, it’s truly one of those things that you don’t realize how badly it’s making you feel until you let it go. Give it two weeks. Two weeks and you will get over the hump and start to feel your body working better again, mentally and physically. Your brain fog will lift and your skin will clear up a bit too. The lemon water and greens are important too.

4. Diet detox

As a final detox tip, we’re suggesting that if this is you, you give up the lose weight fast dieting lifestyle that so many people are on right now. Why? Because it’s exhausting and you’re worth more than that. Look, this is an official disclaimer that we aren’t medical or mental health professionals and shouldn’t be treated as such. But we do know that adding healthy servings of fruits and vegetables back into your life paired with a reasonable amount of exercise goes a long way toward your overall health. Maybe drop those trendy diets like a bad habit and get back to the basics because they’re basics for a reason...right?

We hope this helps! Sometimes you just need a reminder because time moves fast and so do you. Before you know it your routines are gone and so are your good habits. There’s always time to get back to focusing on you!
